I log into an app and within four seconds something is already telling me to buy it. New year, new me. This one tool will fix everything. Upgrade now before the problem gets worse.
Every app I open is selling me something that will supposedly make all my problems disappear. And every time, some part of me knows it will not.
That is the exact feeling I never want a brand’s website to give to their audience. And yet it happens constantly. A visitor lands on a homepage, scrolls past the hero, and is immediately met with the pitch. Here is what we do. Here are the packages. Here is the newsletter with 1000+ subscribers. Buy this. Book that. Before the site has said a single thing that makes the visitor feel like it understands them at all. It just sells.
So before asking what is wrong with the offer, the pricing, or the packaging, I think there is a better question first. Am I actually speaking to them, or am I just selling?
The Mirror
Right after the hero, before any service or offer shows up, there should be a section that holds up a mirror. It names the exact situation the visitor is in right now, in their own words, not marketing language. If they see themselves in it, they keep scrolling. If they do not, they were never the right visitor to begin with, and that is fine too.
The Reframe
Then comes the shift. Once someone recognizes themselves in the mirror, the reframe section changes how they see that situation using your mindset, your way of solving it, your specific angle. Not a pitch yet. Just a new way to look at the same problem.
This is the whole difference. A site that sells starts with itself, here is what we offer. A site that speaks starts with the reader, here is what you are dealing with, and here is a different way to think about it. By the time the actual offer shows up, the visitor is not being sold to. They already feel understood. And a person who feels understood does not need convincing.

There is actually a whole ten step checklist forming in my head about how choosing the right client now feels a lot like picking who you would go on a first date with. That one is a longer story for another day.
